How good is your memory? Let's try it out. Write down what you think you remember prices being in May for 2006-2009. May is typically a volatile month that can bring rapid price swings as refiners and retailers switch fuel types each year.

May 31, 2010: Forecast: $2.795 (-0.105)
May 1, 2010: $2.900

May 31, 2009: $2.492 (+.0.438)
May 1, 2009: $2.054

May 31, 2008: $3.972 (+0.351)
May 1, 2008: $3.619

May 31, 2007: $3.174 (+0.182)
May 1, 2007: $2.992

May 31, 2006: $2.846 (-0.038)
May 1, 2006: $2.884

May 31, 2005: $2.076 (-0.134)
May 1, 2005: $2.210

If the new Memorial Day forecast stays on target, May of 2010 will see the biggest decrease...

we know that the prices will be probably approaching 2008 if Pig Oil has ANY say in the matter. And since they have a monopoly, they DO have a say.

so, with one of the worst predictions for summer hurricane season, does that mean, we'll see 2008 prices again?

I like some of those prices. Where we live in Ontario, Canada, we buy in litres and if convert that price into an American gallon, it works out to $3.90-$4.00 a gallon. So, we do pay a lot more than Americans. I only hope that falling prices are realized in the near future.

I remember 2006 was the first time we cracked the $3/gallon mark. My youngest niece and nephew were both born on May 18, 2006 and I noted at the time that gasoline hit record highs. Then came May 2008 and $4/gallon gas...

This year has seen the market react to the normal spring increase already. Gas is going down not up as it normally does.

This must be nation wide pricing, I use the Gas Buddy fuel log and don't see much resemblance. Some are higher and some lower.

Don't Give Dork the Orc and the rest of the Village Idiots at Ashland Oil any more ideas....Greedway is living up to it's name...Then take along Marathon, then BP Shell and the rest...They've gotten rich enough, and Congress has gotten their share, just like the big bail banks back to their line of crap, and filling Congress's pockets there too.

Prices rise at the whim of the oil companies and the speculators. The oil companies love speculators because it gives them a reason to raise prices.

Five hundred dollars in gas to drive from Nashville,Tennesee to San Antonio,Texas in 2008. Wonder about what is in the cost of a gallon of gasoline. Alastax(the Lost frontier) has the lowest Tax Total on a gallon of gas....Guess who has the highest prices. We Alaskans must be among the most gullable in the known Universe. Congress has hearings when the Big Oil makes a buck, but never once was it reported how much money the Federal Pockets steal. The public bears the tax burden of welfare bailouts for the failures of Integrity in business, simultainiously paying more to drive to work to get taxed more. Tax Tax Tax, call your representatives and tell them who's money it is, remembering the number one powerplay is YOU keep paying to keep the power brokers in YOUR pay. Don't pay them and they have no power. Of course we're happy to have the Lake Otis/ Tudor Intersection torn up every four years. Remember when the idiots put a taxpayers traffic light at Folker only to tear it out because it backed up Tudor even worse. Next time fire the idiot and put them in the unemployment line. Keep laying there for them and your going to walk funny the rest of your life.

Any excuse is good, switching fuel types; driving season coming up. What does it matter? As long as there is no competition, or readily available alternatives, we will remain hostage to the whims of the oil/gas industry.

My bet is the prices will go up before Memorial day, even if the price of crude continues to fall , inventories remain high, and wholesale prices drop. Why? Because they can do it and we have no choice but to bite the bullet.

Predictions are fun (sometimes anyway) but we'll continue to buy gas anyway whether prices go up or down. Let's hope there's a drop in our future but your best savings will be gained from conservation and properly maintained vehicles.
