Michigan hands victory to motorists upset over misleading gasoline signs

GasBuddy Blog -- Finally! Motorists (myself included) disgusted with misleading street prices for gasoline, have won. At least in Michigan. Governor Rick Snyder signed into law Michigan House Bill 5596 to protect motorists from misleading gasoline pricing.

It's a topic I've long talked about, but dropped after moving out of Michigan. I had been in touch with the Michigan Department of Weights and Measures, urging them to make illegal the practice of tiny fonts depicting a lower gas price with additional purchase (car wash, milk, etc.) Some gas stations across Michigan will likely need to modify their price signs so that approaching motorists can see that the price displayed first is actually with a car wash, which as of now, is in tiny font- barely...

Maybe in this case, Snyder finaly got it right for the citizens... vs the current suggestion that he wants to fully impliment Obama Care in Michigan. Now that is a recall offense in my mind.

I wonder how this compairs with other law that states they cannot post a price lower than what the price actually is? I worked at a large conv store chain and they made it clear to us that we HAD to change the price on the sign BEFORE raising the price in the pumps to ensure we did not run afoul of such laws. Of course, when the price was coming down we lowered it on the pumps THEN the sign...all to make sure we never displayed a price lower than we were actually selling for.
