Congress has Little Time to Get Resolution Done for Auto Dea

Detroit News - Auto Insider -- More than four months after the House voted to reverse the closing of more than 2,000 auto dealerships, time is running short to get a deal done this year.

GM and Chrysler and many members of Congress want a "non-legislative fix." The Obama administration also opposes efforts to reverse the dealer closings. One proposal is to have some arbitration process for an unspecified number of the closing dealers

If the government had gotten started earlier in the act of propping up business enterprises that were faltering, we'd very likely have surviving companies making Conestoga wagons, producing whale oil, and conducting cattle drives across the Western plains.

Small, struggling dealerships can't give buyers the customer experience the manufacturer would like to have.

Toyota never let their dealer network get bloated.

it used to be called a "business decision". Now that our foolish government has bailed these loosers out, every pundit, every tin horn legislator from the state house to both houses of congress thinks he or she should have some say as to how these loosers are going to try to survive. We should have let them sink or swim. Nobody bailed out my local independent pharmacy when Walmart put it out of business. 'Course, Walmart owns so many lobbyists that nobody opposes them...

Whats taking so long for the OBAMASLOB Administration to put people out of work and on to the Public dole, keeping them dependant on the Government?? Ill bet KING HUSANE-OBAMASLOB is opposed to efforts to reverse the dealer closings. Anything els would go against his plan to destroy this country and take control.

Since when did the government get into the automobile business? They need to stick to running the country into the ground.

So much for Obama's promise to save or create jobs. We already have 15 million without jobs in this Country and He wants to put more people out of work.

The government should never have gotten involved in the first place. This wouldn't even be an issue or in the news if they'd just let capitalism work.

I don't understand the reason for closing so many dealers. A distribution network is key to sales. Fewer dealers means fewer points of sales and sales to me, but what do I know. If the reason for declining market share of the (formerly) big three was the dealers, then yes, close some of them up. But they weren't to blame. The blame goes to the arrogant, high paid executives in their ivory towers making bad, short sighted decisions. GM made obscene profits in the 80's even when their market share was declining, making all those cookies cutter models which had only cosmetic differentiation between the models.

Obama's henchman closed all the dealerships that didn't provide campaign funding for Obama. That was politics at its worst.

Obama's plan was un-American as it is taking away the incentives for anyone to open and operate a small business. THis is communism at it's finest.

What a short memory, I do remember reading 10 years or so ago that the manufacturers were trying to close their smaller dealerships. They wanted more of the so called megadealers, thats when a lot of movement in the dealers ranks. Merging just like the Oil companys. Only with dealers merging with other dealers. I think around then the dealers with all brands started showing up. Prior to then you never seen a Chevy dealer also selling Fords...
